Before we went to Joshua National Park, I read an article the San Diego Reader written by this woman that went hiking in the park and on the way home stumbled across this western town about 4 miles from the main road of 62 west in Yucca Valley. Her article refers to this Pioneer Town as part ghost town, movie set and tourist trap. There are a couple of shops there a small general store, a saddle store, a local artist doing drawings and a pottery shop. She is right when she refers to the town as quaint and quirky. According to the article, Pioneer Town was built in the 1950's as a set for Western TV shows such as The Cisco Kid and included homes so the actors could live onsite. People actually live in some of the homes that I took pictures of and there is a quaint motel in the town. There is also some quirkiness to the town. Some of the resident's homes have broken china, typewriters, knick-knacks, small toy cars and other quirky things. It was interesting to walk around and see all the different things. If you are ever in the area, it is worth the trip. Even the rock formation driving to Pioneer town was different. Hope you enjoy this, we certainly did.
