Oceanside Pier

Last night we went to Oceanside Pier for dinner.  At the very end of the pier is Ruby's Diner.  They have great burgers there and it is an oceanview.  The pier is very active with a lot of fishermen and people.  The surfers also come out at dusk when the tide comes in.  We saw a plane, surfers and a beautiful sunset.  We also saw pelicans.  I told Marina to stand by a pelican and it tried to bite her.  Daphne told her to watch out as I was taking the picture and it snapped at her.  I captured it in the picture.

Captain Morgan

Chano and I went to a gas station and there Captain Morgan.

Daphne's Greek Cafe

Daphne was so excited when she saw her name on a restaurant so I had to take a picture of it.

Palm Tree

I just love this palm tree.  It looks like a giant pineapple or Sponge Bob's house.

Oceanside Coast Highway

Oceanside Coast Highway has a lot of shops, restaurants and hotels.  There are some interesting things to see there.  Molly and I found a cow.

Bethany Hamilton/Soul Surfer

We got to see Bethany Hamilton.  Here is her story.  At the age of 13, Bethany was attacked by a 14 foot tiger shark while surfing.  The attack left Bethany with a severed left arm.  After losing 60% of her blood and several surgeries, Bethany was on her way to recovery with an unbelieveably positive attitude.  Miraculously, just one month later, Bethany returned to the water to continue to pursue her goal to become a professional surfer.  In 2004, Bethany shared her life story in her autobiography entitled Soul Surfer.  Seven years later, the book was made into the film "Soul Surfer"  She gave a very inspirational speech at a church in Oceanside.  It was very heart warming to hear her speech.   Here are some pictures of her talking to the youth group and then talking to the adults.  We were fortunate enough to hear the strength that this girl has in her life.  I am posting pictures of her and my girls by the surf  boards.

Aloha day at the girls school

The girls are dressed in Hawaiian clothes for Aloha day.  Even Leo had on a lei.

Oceanside Pier

We walked out on the Oceanside Pier.  It is a long, wooden pier.  There are a lot of people fishing off the pier.  There is a shop on the pier, a life guard station and a restaurant on the very end of the pier.  I took some pictures of the bait.  We also saw a fisherman catch a stingray which I am posting.  There is a lot to see from the pier. You can see sea lions in the water and the surfers.  It is very entertaining and beautiful.

The girls new school

The girls go to Christa McAuliffe Elementary School.  It is about 5 minutes from our house.  The hallways are outside and so is the lunch room, but it is covered by a roof.   They are making new friends but they miss their old school.  I have a picture of the school and a view from the parking lot.  One is of the morning haze or fog due to the ocean.

Encinitas

The seaside town of Encinitas.

Strawberry Stand

We found this great Strawberry stand about 5 minutes from our house.  They have this cute little barn where you can buy them and they grow them right behind the barn.  They are the best strawberries that I have ever tasted in my entire life.  Molly says that instead of a birthday cake for her birthday she just wants more strawberries.

Our house and view of our street

We are renting a duplex from month to month until we find a house.  Here is a picture of our house and a view up our street.  Also, Lizards in our backyard.

Oceanside Beach

Girls Gone Crazy!!

Ocean Inlet

Cool Kites in California

Cool Seaweed
Chano's sister, Julia and her husband, Ray came to visit us from Arizona.  We went down to the harbor and walked down to the beach in Oceanside.

Oceanside Harbor

Oceanside Harbor is a great place to go.  It has a lighthouse, marina, shops and restaurants.   We love this fish and chips restaurant at the harbor so we went there for dinner one night and a curious seagull was looking for some food, but you never feed seagulls anywhere you go.  He hung around our table for awhile.
