Welk Resort, Escondido, CA with Dana

My friend, Dana came to visit me.  I got a really good deal from my vacation club for her to stay at the Lawrence Welk Resort in Escondido.  We have stayed here before and it is beautiful.  It is set in the mountains and they have 8 pools some with slides, hot tubs, game rooms, restaurants, and a theater.  It is very private as the resort is only open to guests.  She had a beautiful room and we enjoyed the amenties of the resort.  Dana cousins, Karen and Tony and their 4 kids came to visit Dana at the resort.  They live about 45 minutes away.  So, we had a little party in the room one night and their kids played with our kids.  We had a great time the Lawrence Welk and we can't wait to visit there again. 

San Luis Rey Mission with Dana

No visit to Oceanside would be complete without a visit to the San Luis Rey Mission.  It is called the "King of the Missions" because it is the largest of the 21 missions built in Calfornia.  So when Dana came to visit, I took her there.

Old Town San Diego

When my friend, Dana was in town we went to Old Town.  Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is full of restored and reconstructed buildings that are now museums, shops and restaurants that capture the energy of the community between 1821 and 1872.  There are many cool shops and good Mexican restaurants.  It is a rather large place and should be on a must do list when visiting San Diego.  There is a plaza with a hotel, church, shops, Wells Fargo museum and many more.  Each time I come here there is more I discover.  We had lunch at a Mexican Restaurant called El Fandango and the good was really good.

La Jolla Seals and Sea cave with Dana

 

When my best friend, Dana visited me, we took her to La Jolla to see the seals. We took her into the small sea cave located on the beach. There were a lot of pelicans on the top of the sea cave.  There was a lot of activity by the beach that day including a guy holding two pigeons, which he flung in the air and they flew back to him and some swimmers in wetsuits and speedos.  Dana took some really cute pictures which I am posting with my pictures as well.  There are 2 videos.  Just click on the lower left hand corner of the black box and the video will play.

Living Coast Discovery Center, Chula Vista

We took the kids to the Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista which is a nature center with fish and birds from the local area.  They had seahorses, stingrays, sharks, octopus, lobsters, crabs and many species of birds set on natural wetlands.  I took a close up picture of an octopus.  I also added a picture of shark eggs, which have the black spirals.  There is also a lot of artwork made from recycle materials.  It was a really nice nature center. After we left the nature center, we drove to the border and we saw the Mexican flag.
